MOUNT OLIVE GROVE AND ITS HISTORY From Here
The priests who celebrated in ACON
Although it is true that history is made as documented by written records, as true and documented history is created and retrieved from notarial acts.
For the early history of the Abbey of Monte Oliveto one of the first notaries who notarized for the area around Acona, Etruscan name of the place where it arose Monte Oliveto Maggiore, is precisely the notary OLIVO DA SIENA.
In the State of Siena, Notary No. 26 we have a protocol imbreviature of 22 cards with many different instruments, in particular related to land and closing Melianda, areas very close and interesting for our history.
In addition to dozens of deeds drawn to Chiatina, there are at least three Rogati Bollano, dependence of Monte Oliveto, which certainly refers to the period in which the Founders of Monte Oliveto had just arrived at Acon.
fact, some deeds refer to residents in the vicinity of Acona priests in the years 1315-1316 when the three Sienese nobles were still living in caves and made priests from celebrating Mass, well-known neighbors, how accurately record the history of our origins Antonio da Barga.
Here are the names of priests:
1) ASS. Notary, 26, 20 January 1315 c.6v.1
Act notarized in the curia of closures in place before Petruchio those stamps.
"I priest Benedict rector of the Church of Santo Stefano di fold from the diocese of Siena, the villa of the lessor under a lease" loco et vobis grant priest Stefano "Rector of the church of San Biagio di Neci of that diocese to Giulio Martino et rector of the church St. Peter's Diocese of Arezzo Grè
the said church of Santo Stefano and the possessions of the church of Sant 'Oncle (!) of that relevant to her church, and the possession of the same Sant'Angelo referring to .... "
2) ASS: Notary 26 c.6v.2
20 January 1315. Act done in the curia of the closure in place before Petruchio Borbolini those stamps and witnesses Minuccio Jacobini present and required. We priests, rectors and priests of the church of San Biagio di Neci the diocese of Siena and Giulio Martino rector of St. Peter's Church of the Diocese of Arezzo Grè confessional and grateful with this parable, Benedict rector of the Church of Santo Stefano in the diocese of Siena testify which leads and has led that church of Santo Stefano di fold for the people of the same church ".. to affictum aspectante Sancti Angeli de monasterio building up .."
So, from these two documents we know the names of priests who lived near then said to Acona Monte del'oliveto.
1) Benedict rector of the Church of Santo Stefano di fold.
2) Stephen Priest and Rector the church of San Biagio in Neci.
3) Giulio Martino rector of the ancient church of San Pietro a Gre.
